Time: the present day Place: somewhere in the Bay Area, California (San Francisco, San Jose, etc.) Synopsis: A small group of recently laid-off programmers develop a screen saver that uses the idle power of millions of computers to analyze the dreams of its users. Based on the same general idea as the SETI@home screen-saver, it uses pattern recognition algorithms in an effort to find common themes among all of the dreams that are entered into it daily. They fund the first version of the program themselves; primarily with a variety of unusual (and somewhat unsavory) small business enterprises. But in order to fully realize their vision, they need to come out with a second version, so they engage in a lengthy and difficult search for additional funding. They find this in an eccentric scientist/millionaire/recluse/genius, who gives them a million dollars and complete freed
